Expect to feed 1 1/2 to 2 times the adult feeding recommendation during the puppy's growing phase. Adjust the daily amount fed so the puppy maintains a good body condition.

Pregnant females:  During pregnancy increase the feeding amount during the last 1/3 of pregnancy to 1 1/2 times the amount recommended as shown for the adult. Avoid excessive overfeeding, maintaining a good body condition, while preparing for whelp and nursing.

Lactating females:  A nursing female can expect to need 2 to 3 times as much food as recommended in the adult feeding guideline. Adjust the extra food given by the number of puppies and length of nursing. Try to maintain a good body condition, however, with large numbers of puppies, expect to have some loss in body fat for milk production.
